What people ask us
And what we would rather say before you have to ask.
The experience
A service that composes artworks from your biological signature. You wear a smart ring during a moment that matters to you, it records the variations of your heart, and that material becomes a unique artwork, printed once and shipped to you.
Around thirty minutes on average for Connection. Ten minutes at the very least so there is enough material, an hour at most.
No. Everything happens at home. The smart rings arrive by post, you live your moment whenever you want, and the artwork is shipped to you. We are not present during the experience. That is deliberate.
Yes, that is how Connection is designed: in the same room, facing each other. At a distance, it works too: each of you uses your own phone, and you live the moment together, at the same time.
No. You receive your smart rings and decide afterwards. Nothing starts until you press Start in the app.
Yes. There is nothing to get right, nothing particular to feel. A body produces variation constantly, including when you believe you feel nothing.
The smart ring and the capture
No. Nothing is captured until you press Start, and recording stops the moment you press Finish. Outside that window, the smart ring transmits nothing.
You can’t get it wrong. Nothing is recorded until you press Start, and everything stops when you press Finish. You keep your smart rings: if a moment doesn’t feel right, record another one, the next day, the next month, as many times as you like. You then tell us which one becomes the artwork. One artwork is produced per order, and you decide what it says.
The variation of blood volume under your skin: your heartbeat and its irregularities. No sound, no image, no location, nothing of what you say.
It stays in our archives: that is what ties your certificate to your capture, and what makes our work progress. Nothing that identifies you is published without your written consent. You can ask us to delete your data by email, at any time.
Yes, they are yours. Nothing to return, nothing to ship back, no hidden fee. And their life doesn’t end with your moment: these are real smart rings. Paired with the manufacturer’s app, they track your sleep, your steps, your heart rate, its oxygenation and your temperature, every day. Our own app only serves the capture: what you do with your smart rings afterwards does not go through us.
No, and it cannot. A heartbeat indicates that something happened; it never says what. What you said to each other stays between you.
We ask for both sizes when you order. When in doubt, size up: the heartbeat reads best on a finger that feels comfortable. The smart rings are yours and are not returned. A ring that does not work, on the other hand, is replaced.
It arrives charged, with its charger. Charge it the day before your moment: its battery lasts days, not weeks. And it is water resistant, shower and pool included: you never have to take it off.
Yes, ideally one each: you each install the app, on iPhone as on Android, and pair your own smart ring to it. A single phone can carry both rings if needed. The app installs from a link we send you. During the capture, keep the phone in the same room: further away, the smart ring loses contact and part of the trace is lost.
The artwork
You choose an artwork, its overall form, and two colours. You do not choose the result: the composition depends entirely on what your bodies did during the capture.
One appears when your heart speeds up, the other when it slows down. Between them, the resting rhythm stays black: it holds the drawing together and keeps it readable. The balance comes from your data.
Two people never produce the same trace, and the same person never reproduces it twice. It is a physical consequence of how a heart is governed.
The artwork is not an interpretation: every line comes from what your bodies did. We compose the artwork; the trace itself is never retouched. That is also why the moment is entirely yours: as long as you have your smart rings, you can record as many as you like and choose the one you hand us.
No, and that is deliberate. The artwork is printed once, or twice if you add the additional print to your order, printed in the same run. After that, nothing is ever reprinted. What you hang on your wall is the original.
Three sizes, on fine art paper: 8.5 × 11, 13 × 19 and 17 × 22 inches. You choose yours when ordering, and the price follows the size. Framing is available as an option, as is an additional print.
A numbered document linking your artwork to your capture, with its own online page. It is what separates an artwork from a reproduction.

Yes. Allow two to three weeks before the date you want to give it, so the smart rings arrive in time. What you hand someone that day is the moment itself: the artwork arrives about two weeks after they have lived it.
Yes, as long as you have not started your capture: write to us and we refund the price of the artwork. We keep $110 USD, the cost of the two smart rings, which stay with you. Once your capture has begun, the artwork is composed from your data and printed once: the order can no longer be cancelled. A lost parcel or an artwork damaged in transit is of course replaced.
Not with Connection: the experience is built for two and would lose its meaning beyond that. Other experiences are coming for families and groups.
